Linda Evangelista for Kenar in 1991: Beauty and 7 Beasts. Quell’anno fece discutere l’immagine realizzata da Rocco La Spata e Charles De Caro per il marchio di abbigliamento Kenar. Set per il lavoro fu il paesino siciliano di Savoca, già noto per il film Il padrino.

La fotografia incriminata

Nella fotografia la bellissima top model di origine ciociara Linda Evangelista posa al centro di un gruppo formato da sette donne. Pagate solo 20.000 lire ciascuna per lo scatto, queste esibiscono tutti i segni della loro età: sdentate, robuste, avvizzite e con le sopracciglia folte indossano abiti neri come richiesto dai fotografi. Al centro la bellezza altera di Linda si scontra con la loro caducità fisica, emergendo in tutto il suo fulgore. Ribattezzata “la bella e le sette bestie”, l’immagine venne esposta a New York per divenire famosa nel mondo anche a causa di una protesta esercitata in seguito dalle anziane.

La causa legale

Queste infatti asserirono di esser state raggirate circa lo scopo della fotografia, il cui fine avrebbe dovuto essere di tipo umanitario. Nel 1992 le donne chiesero un risarcimento alla Kenar, dando il via a un lungo ed estenuante
processo conclusosi solo tanti anni dopo con l’assoluzione dell’azienda e il risarcimento economico per una sola delle donne.

The Photo

In the photograph, the beautiful top model of Ciociaria origin Linda Evangelista poses at the center of a group of seven women. Paying just 20,000 lire (about 10 $) each for the shot, these exhibit all the signs of their age: toothless, stout, withered and with thick eyebrows, they wear black clothing as required by photographers. Linda’s haughty beauty collides with their physical transience, emerging in all her splendor. Renamed “the beauty and the seven beasts”, the image was exhibited in New York to become famous in the world also due to a protest later exercised by the elderly.

The Lawsuit

These in fact claimed to have been deceived about the motivation of the photograph, whose purpose should have been of a humanitarian nature. In 1992, the women filed for compensation from Kenar, kicking off a long and grueling one process that ended only many years later with the acquittal of the company and financial compensation for only one of the women.
