In tal modo il bidet fu associato all’immagine delle prostitute, le uniche che proseguirono ad utilizzarlo, contribuendo senza volerlo al suo rapido declino. Per cercare di nascondere i miasmi intervennero i creatori di profumi, i quali conobbero un incremento delle vendite delle proprie essenze, contribuendo alla nascita della moderna industria profumiera.
